Cyclone Gaja: All measures being taken to restore normalcy, says Panneerselvam

Nagapattinam (Tamil Nadu) [India], Nov 18 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Sunday visited the cyclone-ravaged areas of Nagapattinam district to take stock of the situation. He also assured the people that the state government is taking all necessary and possible steps to restore normalcy in the region at the earliest.

Nagapattinam (Tamil Nadu) [India], Nov 18 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Sunday visited the cyclone-ravaged areas of Nagapattinam district to take stock of the situation. He also assured the people that the state government is taking all necessary and possible steps to restore normalcy in the region at the earliest.
While addressing the media persons, Panneerselvam said: "The cyclone continued for six hours and has done a lot of damage. However, the main roads have been cleared and more than 100 doctors are in the field and around 6,000 people are executing the rescue operations to restore normalcy as soon as possible."
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami regarding the situation prevailing in the state and assured all possible help on behalf of the Centre. On the other hand, Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Saturday also assured Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr C Vijaya Baskar of all possible help.
The cyclone Gaja has derailed the daily life of a large number of residents of Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu after it made a landfall in the coastal areas of the district on Thursday night. Following which the electricity supply was severely disrupted in the district, affecting
day-to-day activities of the residents.
The cyclonic storm crossed Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast between Nagapattinam and Vedaranniyam on Thursday evening and unleashed mayhem in Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts as well.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister confirmed that 11 people have lost their lives so far after the landfall of cyclone Gaja. He also announced that the government would provide Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh to severely injured people and Rs 25,000 to the people who have suffered minor injuries. (ANI)
