Nalagarh (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): Leader of Opposition and former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jairam Thakur on Friday, came down heavily on Congress over corruption and said that the party is going to create a record of scams in the state.
Jairam Thakur said, "The scams of the Congress government have started coming to light and every day, new cases are coming up. This is just the beginning. The Congress government is going to create a record of scams in the state."
Thakur made these remarks while he was campaigning for the BJP candidate KL Thakur in Nalagarh for the upcoming by-elections. Notably, the by-elections for Hamirpur, Nalagarh and Dehra assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh are scheduled for July 10.
The former Chief Minister also claimed that a case of scam worth more than Rs 60 crore has come to light in Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board.
"To benefit their favourites, the government allotted a tender of Rs 175 crore for Rs 240 crore. The scam of Rs 60 crore was done to benefit whom and at whose behest was it done? The government should answer this. This is not the first scam of the Congress government. Many scams have come to light before this, where the government ignored the rules and disregarded the instructions of the officials to benefit its favourites."
Targeting the state CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Thakur added, "The Chief Minister should answer these questions. Instead of developing the state, the government is working to take the state backwards. The state government is only interested in scams and has no concern with the people of the state."
Jairam Thakur said that Congress had made a series of false guarantees to come to power and now that it has come to power, it is making a series of scams. "Only one and a half years have passed, only time will tell what the government will do in the future," Thakur said.
Stepping up his attacks, Thakur said that the government has cheated everyone, farmers, gardeners and women power. "The Chief Minister is just trying to run the government by lying. One year has passed since the disaster caused by heavy rains in the state, but till now the government has not been able to provide relief to the victims," he added.
While addressing the public meeting in Nalagarh's Sai Chadog and Lunas, he said that the people of Nalagarh have decided that he is with BJP candidate KL Thakur.
He said, "The people of Nalagarh are not afraid of the corrupt policies of the government. The people of the state including Nalagarh have rejected the Congress government of the state even in the first by-election, there is no future for the Congress government in the state in the coming times."
Expressing confidence in BJP's win, Thakur asserted, "BJP will win all three seats with huge votes. The development of the state will pick up pace again under the BJP government." (ANI)
