Tongue backs England’s batting approach after 110-run collapse
England pacer Josh Tongue enjoyed his outing on Day 1 of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), as he became the first England bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Boxing Day Test. However, England's batting remained their weak point in the series as they got all out for just 110 runs in reply to Australia's 152 on a happening Melbourne pitch. Tongue defended England's batting, saying it's how the Three Lions play.

Vijay Hazare Trophy: Virat, Pant fifties, Rinku's ton highlights
In Delhi's clash, after Gujarat opted to field first, India's stalwarts Virat (77 in 61 balls, with 13 fours and a six) and skipper Rishabh Pant (70 in 79 balls, with eight fours and two sixes) played entertaining knocks, as Delhi posted 254/9 in 50 overs. Vishal B Jayswal (4/42) was Gujarat's top bowler.
Ashes, 4th Test: Pacers get 20/20 on bowling paradise at MCG
At the end of the day, Australia was 4/0, with Scott Boland (4*) and Travis Head (0*) unbeaten. England was skittled out for 110 in reply to Australia's first innings total of 152 runs, with Neser (4/45) and Boland (3/30) being at their most unplayable. England trails by 46 runs.
Brook becomes fastest to reach 3,000 Test runs in terms of balls
Brook, England's vice-captain, achieved this milestone during his side's fourth Ashes Test, a prestigious Boxing Day fixture at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). During the first innings, he delivered a decent counter-attack after England was reduced to 16/4, scoring 34-ball 41, with two fours and two sixes. But just like it has been throughout the series, a promising knock was cut short, this time by Scott Boland.
Manjrekar terms India's 2023 WC final pitch selection a "blunder"
On November 19, two years back, India's memorable run at the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup at home did not reach its fairytale ending as their fiery batting line-up scored just 240 on a tough Ahmedabad pitch against Australia. Despite having Australia at a spot of bother at 47/3, a counter-attack from centurion Travis Head took Australia to their sixth 50-over crown, handing India a loss, causing a pain that even winning two white-ball ICC titles later could not really heal. Manjrekar was speaking on 'Rise of Champions' on JioHotstar.
VHT: Rohit falls for golden duck, Virat makes brisk 77
Both Rohit and Virat had made a triumphant return to VHT a couple of days back, with Rohit blasting a 94-ball 155* consisting of 18 fours and nine sixes against Sikkim for Mumbai, while the 'Chasemaster' Virat led Delhi's chase against Andhra Pradesh from the front with a 101-ball 131, with 14 fours and three sixes.
Josh Tongue becomes first English bowler to take Test fifer in MCG in 21st century
Tongue produced the aggression, ruthlessness and venom that England fans had been waiting for. Having already lost the Ashes Test series and extending their wait for their first triumph in Australia since 2010/11, England and particularly Tongue, came to MCG for the prestigious fixture with vengeance in their eyes. Playing for the Three Lions badge on the chest, Tongue played for the fiery English pride, which has faced a lot of wounds in Australia since their last Ashes series win there, having been winless in the last 18 Tests there.
Ashes 4th Test: Tongue's fifer bundles out Aussies for 152 runs
Having already lost the Ashes series, England still have something to play for, as they have yet to end their 18-match winless streak in Australia since their series win in the 2010/11 season. With Tongue replacing an injured Jofra Archer, the English bowling produced the accuracy, relentlessness and venom consistently, something that their die-hard supporters had only witnessed in patches throughout the series.
"Will cool our heels a bit": Cummins sets eyes on T20 WC
Cummins featured in the Adelaide Test, playing a crucial role in sealing the Ashes series for Australia with a total of three wickets each across both innings. But with the Ashes already in the bag, Cummins has chosen to manage his workload ahead of next year's ICC T20 World Cup, which starts on February 7 and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Cummins will be playing under the captaincy of Mitchell Marsh in the marquee T20I tournament. Australia is placed in Group B alongside Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Ireland and Oman. They will start against Ireland on February 11 in Colombo.
Aussie veteran Usman Khawaja completes 8,000 international runs
The 39-year-old Aussie veteran achieved the milestone during his side's fourth Ashes Test against England, a Boxing Day Test match, at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). During his knock, Usman looked in good nick, scoring a 52-ball 29, with two fours, but he was caught behind by Jamie Smith on a Gus Atkinson delivery. After a fine outing at Adelaide on his 39th birthday, Khawaja failed to capitalise on a fine start on MCG as he battles age and fitness concerns and the emergence of a new Aussie opening pair, Travis Head and Jake Weatherald.
Smith's mediocre Ashes continues, falls to Tongue for 3rd time
Leading the side in the fourth Ashes Test with the series already in pocket, Smith, who also led Australia in two opening Tests in the absence of regular skipper Pat Cummins, did get off to a decent start with a boundary each against Tongue and Brydon Carse, but the 31st delivery he faced, coming into him, beat the inside edge of his bat and crashed into middle stump. Smith walked back for just nine in 31 runs and was the fourth wicket to fall for Australia.
Ashes 4th Test: Atkinson-Tongue dismantle Australian top-order
At the end of session one, Australia was 72/4, with Usman Khawaja (21*) and Alex Carey (9*) unbeaten.
