CBI Court sentences two companies, six individuals
The CBI had registered the case on July 14, 2020, following a complaint from Canara Bank's Circle Office in Karnal, Haryana. It was alleged that the accused, acting in criminal conspiracy, dishonestly and fraudulently obtained credit limits and loans amounting to Rs 152 crore and siphoned off the funds for purposes other than those for which the loans were sanctioned.
BMC vote counting to begin at 10 am on Friday across 23 centres
According to the BMC, a total of 23 Returning Officers have been appointed for the 227 election wards within the municipal limits. Strong rooms and counting venues under the jurisdiction of each Returning Officer have been designated for the process and have received the necessary approvals from the Public Works Department and the Police Department.

The number of night shelters in these areas has increased, while teams from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and shelter management agencies conduct midnight rescue operations to move destitute persons from open spaces to safe shelters. The night shelters provide free services, including bedding, three meals a day, sanitation, and safe drinking water.
Indian Coast Guard intercepts Pakistani fishing boat
The Pakistani fishing boat, identified as AL-MADINA, had nine crew members onboard. The vessel has been seized and is being towed to Porbandar for thorough rummaging and joint interrogation by concerned agencies. The Coast Guard said the operation reflects its "unwavering commitment to secure Bharat's maritime frontiers through relentless vigil and law enforcement across the nation's maritime domain."

SC rules Tiger Global structure impermissible tax-avoidance
The appeals arose from the sale of shares of Flipkart Singapore, which derived substantial value from assets located in India, by Tiger Global's Mauritius entities to a Luxembourg-based buyer as part of Walmart Inc.'s acquisition of Flipkart. While the Delhi High Court had held that the assessees were entitled to treaty protection and that the gains were not chargeable to tax in India, the Supreme Court disagreed, finding that the overall structure and manner of control pointed to an abusive arrangement rather than a genuine commercial transaction.
5-member SIT to probe Sukhwant Singh's suicide case
A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police, STF, Nilesh Anand Bharne. The SIT includes Superintendent of Police Champawat Ajay Ganpati, Circle Officer Tanakpur Ms Vandana Verma, Inspector Diwan Singh Bisht (Champawat district), and Sub-Inspector Manish Khatri (Champawat district).
