Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Tata Electronics announced a collaboration on Friday to manufacture Qualcomm Automotive Modules in India. Under this partnership, Tata Electronics will serve as a manufacturing partner for the semiconductor giant, utilising its upcoming high-volume semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Jagiroad, Assam. The move aligns with the national "Make in India" initiative and focuses on supporting both Indian and global automakers through supply chain diversification.

While speaking at a panel discussion titled "Building Trusted AI at Scale: Cities, Startups & Digital Sovereignty" at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the IMF chief said, "countries are positioned differently. Some countries have more demand for AI skills than supply while others have more supply than demand, and some have neither. So we have to work on multiple fronts based on concrete assessments of conditions in countries and localities."

Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, met with the CEO of Google and Alphabet at the India AI Summit 2026. Both leaders discussed investments in AI, research and collaborations for framing AI standards.

Speaking on the recent developments in the trade sector that India has witnessed, Goyal said, "Ultimately, if you see, 70 per cent of the global GDP and two-thirds of global trade is today open to India. In the nine Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that we have finalized including the first tranche of the BTA with USA. We have got preferential access across sectors, across geographies and continents in 38 highly developed economies."

Building foundational AI technology is a necessity rather than an option for India to maintain its digital independence, said Sarvam co-founder, Vivek Raghavan. He noted that AI impacts every aspect of human life, making it a core technology that the country must understand at a fundamental level. "Otherwise, we will become a digital colony which is dependent on other countries for this core, core technology," he noted.

OpenAI and Microsoft have joined the United Kingdom's international coalition to safeguard artificial intelligence development. The technology companies have committed new funding to the UK AI Security Institute's flagship Alignment Project to ensure advanced AI systems remain safe, secure, and under human control.
