Kathmandu (Nepal), September 11 (ANI): As Nepal's cooking gas shortage continues to disrupt daily life, students in Kathmandu took their cooking pots to the streets, turning the entrance of Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus into a makeshift kitchen to protest the crisis. In a symbolic demonstration, students cooked rice and Gundruk-aloo (fermented leafy greens and potatoes) curry over firewood outside the campus in Kathmandu. After preparing the meal, they sat together at the gate and shared the food, drawing attention to the difficulties faced by students and the wider public amid dwindling LPG supplies. The protest also highlighted how the shortage has begun affecting students' routines and studies. With LPG increasingly difficult to obtain, students say they are spending hours in queues outside gas depots, while some have stopped cooking in their dormitories altogether and are instead surviving on noodles and biscuits.

Kathmandu (Nepal), September 11 (ANI): Thousands of devotees gathered along the banks of the Bagmati River near the historic Gokarneshwor Temple on the outskirts of Kathmandu to mark Kushe Aunsi, a day dedicated to honouring fathers and remembering departed ancestors. The occasion brought together families from different parts of Nepal, with devotees participating in traditional rituals at the Gokarna pilgrimage site. Many devotees took a holy dip in the Bagmati River before performing Shraddha, the ritual offering made in remembrance of deceased fathers and ancestors. Several participants were seen dressed in traditional white, unstitched garments, as they carried out the religious ceremonies along the riverbank. Those whose fathers are alive honour them with food and seek their blessings. Those who have lost their fathers come to Gokarna to perform Shraddh and pray for their departed souls. Devotees believe their offerings reach the souls in heaven. Kushe Aunsi is also a day when children express love and gratitude towards their living fathers by offering sweets, food and gifts. The tradition is rooted in the Hindu belief of 'Pitridevo Bhava', which emphasises respect for parents and ancestors. The day also highlights the religious significance of Kusha, a sacred grass believed to bring well-being when sanctified and kept at home.

Nuwakot, Nepal: Rescue operations intensified at the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project in Nepal after rescuers reportedly heard voices coming from inside a flooded tunnel, raising fresh hopes that people trapped inside may still be alive. The tunnel was sealed on August 26 after the Bhotekoshi River flooded the project site, cutting off those believed to be inside. Rescue teams have since been working through debris, flooding and difficult conditions to reach them. According to rescuers, voices of multiple people were heard, followed by a response when teams attempted communication. Nepali Army and Armed Police Force personnel are continuing search operations, while technical teams assess possible routes for a safe rescue and evacuation.
