New Delhi, Jun 30 (ANI): The exhilarating first match in Round of 16 matches, ended with France knocking out opponents Argentina with a 4-3 victory at the Kazan Arena on Saturday. France took a lead in the first half with midfielder Antoine Griezmann picking up an opportunistic penalty goal in the 13th minute. After picking up three yellow cards in the first half, Argentina opened account with striker Ángel Di María’s goal (41’). Argentina took a lead in second half (48’) with defender Gabriel Mercado’s goal. France broke Argentina’s lead and set its victory in stone by scoring back to back three goals (57’, 64’ and 68’). Benjamin Pavard’s goal (57’) and twin goals by Kylian Mbappé showed Lionel Messi’s team the door from FIFA World Cup 2018. Argentina’s Sergio Agüero tried to save his team by scoring a third goal in the extra time (90’+3’), but to no avail. France will now go against the winning team amongst Portugal vs Uruguay in their last-eight stage.
