Asian Games 2018: India settles for silver in women’s hockey

Jakarta (Indonesia), Aug 31 (ANI): Indian women’s hockey team settled for silver after going down 1-2 to Japan at the ongoing 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. India’s aspirations of bring home a Gold in women’s hockey were shattered once again with the last gold coming in 1982. However, the silver is an upgrade from bronze at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea in 2014. Rani Rampal, Captain of Indian Women’s Hockey team expressing her disappointment, said, “We were disappointed after the match as this was a chance to directly qualify for Tokyo Olympics and we missed it. We couldn't create history. There's definitely disappointment in us but I think we should rejoice the silver.” Not only did their 36 year wait for gold were spoiled, with this loss the Indian women’s hockey team missed a golden chance for direct qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This gold would have meant direct qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
