'Zero' makers alter 'Kirpan' scenes following objections

Mumbai, Dec 19 (ANI): It seems as though Bollywood movies can no longer release without any prerequisite controversy. Under building pressure from The Bombay High Court, Red Chillies Entertainment filed an affidavit in Bombay HC on petition seeking removal of 'Kirpan' scenes from the film. The objectionable scene from the upcoming movie ‘Zero’, where the protagonist is seen holding an ornamental sword – Kirpan was altered. The Aanand L Rai film faced trouble after Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee filed a petition in November, seeking a direction to the director and producers to delete the said scenes, as it hurts religious sentiments. The Sikh community questioned the film makers on showing the Holy Kirpan as an ordinary dagger in one of the posters of the film. Reasserting that the film did not show a 'Kirpan', Red Chillies Entertainment stated, "Despite the fact that the film and its poster depicted only an ornamental dagger and not a 'Kirpan', steps have been taken by the respondent to alter the relevant scenes. The portions in question have been altered through visual effects to depict an ornamental sword." In November, a petition was filed in the Bombay High Court against the makers of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Zero', including the actor himself, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Sikh community. Also starring Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, ‘Zero’ is set to release on December 21.
