Bette Midler apologises for 'the n-word of the world' tweet

New Delhi, Oct 05 (ANI): American singer-songwriter Bette Midler, who sparked social media backlash after a provocative tweet about women in the midst of protests against Supreme Court judge nominee Brett Kavanaugh, apologised for calling women as the" n-word of the world." "Women, are the n-word of the world," she wrote in a since-deleted tweet "Raped, beaten, enslaved, married off, worked like dumb animals; denied education and inheritance; enduring the pain and danger of childbirth and life IN SILENCE for THOUSANDS of years. They are the most disrespected creatures on earth." The 'Hocus Pocus' star was apparently quoting the title of the 1972 song written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, which she referred to in a since-deleted post. However, Midler took one last jab at trying to prove her point by linking to a report of a Twitter user about how the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) ignored testimonies from former classmates of Kavanaugh. The 72-year-old eventually apologised for her tweet, claiming that the investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh set her off. "Angrily I tweeted w/o [without] thinking my choice of words would be enraging to black women who doubly suffer, both by being women and by being black," Midler said. "I am an ally and stand with you; always have. And I apologize."
