The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) solemnly honours the victims of one of the most lethal crackdowns in East Turkistan since the 2009 Urumqi unrest on the 11th anniversary of the Yarkand massacre.
The event called for urgent US action against China's ongoing persecution of Uyghurs. Yarkand massacre occurred on July 28, 2014, when Chinese security forces brutally suppressed peaceful Uyghur protesters in Yarkand County, Xinjiang, China.
In the statement, Svenska Uyghur Kommitten has called on the Swiss government and international community to acknowledge the expansionist policies of China in East Turkistan and demand transparency and accountability from China.
