A Gorakhpur-based doctor, Pankaj Kumar Dixit, has alleged that he received an extortion threat call on February 12, in which the caller, identifying himself as Rahul Sharma, allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh and threatened to disrupt the functioning of his hospital.
The victim, who has been identified as Awadhesh Kumar Pathak, sustained gunshot injury in the attack, which took place on January 30 when Kumar was walking towards his car.

Officials will be pursuing case under the National Security Act (NSA) and Gangsters Act, Rarebareli Superintendent of Police Yashveer Singh said. The accused have been identified as Vijay Singh, Vaibhav Singh, Vipin Maurya, Sahedev Pasi, and Suresh Kumar Maurya and others.
The accused, identified as Nahar Nat alias Rahul, has 20 cases registered against him and was wanted in 11 of them. He sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and was taken to hospital.
