A powerful magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck offshore Cape Mendocino, California. The earthquake struck near the coast of North California on December 6 at 12:14 am IST.
The USGS said the quake occurred 10 km North-northeast of Chiautla de Tapia, Mexico. It occurred at 2:03 pm (local time) at a depth of 44.4 kilometres, it added.
The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 7.6 according to the US Geological Survey (USGS) and 7.5 according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, struck off the coast of Mindanao island at a depth of 32km. It was followed by four major aftershocks exceeding magnitudes of 6.0 ov
