Tea production in the country has declined significantly in 2024, with Assam recording an 11 per cent drop and West Bengal seeing a 21 per cent decline up to July, according to data from the Tea Association of India.
According to a press release, the Tea Association of India estimates that the cumulative drop in production will be around 60 million kilograms by the end of June 2024, compared to the same period last year.
TAI, representing tea producers in Assam and West Bengal, is concerned by the pressing challenges faced in the current season by the tea industry in these regions.
The Tea Association of India hailed budgetary provisions and announcements made in the Assam budget 2023-24 and said it was strong on capital expenditure, focus on long-term sustainability and will provide a fillip for the tea industry in all sphere.

Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], Aug 02 (ANI): The tea industry has been adversely affected in Terai and Dooars region due to heavy rainfall. The tea planters expect over 10-15 per cent decline in production due to heavy rains.
