The additional installment of funds is part of a broader fiscal strategy outlined in the Interim Budget for 2024-25, which has allocated Rs 12,19,783 crore towards the devolution of taxes to states.
A total amounting to Rs 10.3 lakh crore has been transferred to state governments as devolution of share of taxes by central government, which is Rs 2.25 lakh crore higher than it had done the previous year, the Ministry of Finance said in a release on Thursday.
The central government has authorised the release of an additional instalment of tax devolution amounting to Rs 72,961 crore to state governments for financing various social welfare measures and infrastructure development schemes.
According to the finance ministry, this is in line with the commitment of the government of India to strengthen the hands of states to accelerate their capital and developmental expenditure.
