Six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and eight injured in a terrorist attack on a UN base in Abyei, Sudan. Clashes with militants are ongoing as authorities carry out rescue and medical operations in the disputed border region between Sudan and South Sudan.
"#OperationKaveri IAF C-130 J flight brings 17th batch of evacuees from Port Sudan to Jeddah. 122 Indians evacuated by this flight," tweeted Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
"#OperationKaveri continues to bring Indians back home. Flight carrying 186 passengers touches down in Kochi," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Official Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted on Monday.
"Indigo joins #OperationKaveri. 231 Indians in a flight to New Delhi from Jeddah. With this 5th outbound flight, around 1600 reached or airborne for India. Happy journey. Our Mission continues," Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan tweeted.
"How's the josh? #OperationKaveri 135 more Indian evacuees reached Jeddah by IAF C-130J. With this 12th batch, around 2100 Indians arrived in Jeddah in total. Our efforts will continue," Muraleedharan tweeted.
"Bon voyage! Delighted to see off 362 Indians evacuated from Sudan on a flight bound for Bengaluru from Jeddah. Good number of these are from Hakki Pikki tribe," tweeted Muraleedharan.
"#OperationKaveri progresses further. 10th batch of evacuees with 135 passengers onboard IAF C-130J flight departs Port Sudan for Jeddah," tweeted the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi.
The decision to include nationals of many other countries and the fact that all evacuation options (ground and air) were kept open in the planning stage, until the last moment when the air bridge was selected aptly describes the complexities of the operation, as per the diplomatic sources.
Indians stranded in Sudan have departed the conflict-torn country in the first phase of 'Operation Kaveri', the Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka, MUM Ali Sabry on Monday said that the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka is closely monitoring the situation of its citizens in Sudan and that they were working to ensure their safe evacuation.
