Amid Taliban's opposition to the move, the United Nations Secretary-General's spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, has said that the process of appointing a special representative for Afghanistan is underway, according to Khaama Press.
"I will travel to India and UAE this week to meet with partners on our collaboration in support of the Afghan people," said Thomas West in a post on X.

A senior US Administration official dealing with refugees and migration, Julieta Valls Noyes, held a meeting with foreign secretary Cyrus Qazi and Pakistan's special representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Asif Durrani, The Express Tribune reported on Tuesday.
“For Afghanistan to stand on its own two feet, women must be educated and contribute to economy. If change to policies is made, it will be because Afghans have asked for it, not a result of foreign requests,” the US special representative for Afghanistan tweeted.
The United States expressed "deep concern" regarding the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan, particularly for women and girls and expressed support for the people’s demands for their rights to be respected.
UN deputy special representative for Afghanistan Markus Potzel said that the issue will be raised continuously till the rights of women are not "respected".
