Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by an MP/MLA court in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur in a dual PAN Card case on Monday.
Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Tuesday said that the controversy over the 'I Love Muhammad' campaign, which triggered violence in Bareilly on September 26, was an attempt to disrupt communal harmony.
Azam Khan was jailed in connection with the Quality Bar land encroachment case and was released after securing bail from the Allahabad High Court in May this year.

The Supreme Court has asked the sessions court to adjudicate Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan's appeal against his conviction within six months. The court also treated him as a juvenile in the case.
