As doctors took out a silent rally in Kolkata against RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case, on the victim's birthday, protesting doctors demanded punishment for all concerned in Abhaya's murder, torture and evidence tampering.
BJP's West Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday, condemned the maligning of the victim's family in the RG Kar rape-murder case, stating he will visit them to show support.
The West Bengal government has appealed to the Calcutta High Court's Division Bench against the trial court's life imprisonment verdict convicting Sanjay Roy in the RG Kar case.

CPI-M leader Brinda Karat on Monday expressed dissatisfaction over the punishment given to the convict in the RG Kar case, saying that the state government should also have been held accountable.
"Punishment, no matter how severe, does not end the problems. The rising incidences of rapes, assaults, and murders are alarming and reflect a deeper societal malaise," Governor Bose stated.
"On Saturday, the judge said that the harshest punishment would be given (to the accused). We have full faith in the judge. Our fight will continue in the courts and streets," the father of the deceased doctor told ANI.
"...He (accused Sanjay Roy) tried to speak on Saturday, the court asked him to speak on Monday. We don't know what he will say. He is a criminal, there are other people involved with him...he should get the harshest punishment," the victim's father told reporters.
The security has been heightened with two deputy commoners of Kolkata Police fielded on the ground along with five assistant commoners of police, 14 inspectors, 31 sub-inspectors, 39 assistant sub-inspectors, 299 constables and 80 women police personnel.
He said the court should hear the accused Sanjay Roy and the revelations he intends to make. People have doubts and questions over the destruction of evidence in the case, the BJP leader added.
