The Himachal Pradesh government has issued a statewide advisory in view of an active western disturbance likely to cause heavy snowfall and rainfall across the state between January 26 and 28, officials said on Saturday.
Chennai District Collector Roshni Siddharth Jagade, IAS, announced that all educational institutions in the district would observe a holiday on December 2 in view of the weather alerts.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued orange and yellow alerts for various parts of the State for the next four days, as weather systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea continue to feed moisture into the region.
Issuing a statement, the NDRRMA said, "In order to minimize the risk of flash floods, landslides, and other potential disasters caused by heavy rainfall, it is hereby informed that long-distance vehicle movement from all districts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces
Jaisalmer district collector Pratap Singh has issued an order declaring a holiday in all government and non-government schools and Anganwadi centres, anticipating heavy rain on Monday.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister's Secretary and Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey on Monday announced that the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib Yatra have been postponed until September 5.
The IMD also issued an alert for heavy rainfall in the Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, and Shimla districts over the next six hours.
"An advisory was already issued that there might be heavy rain in the next 56 hours..We have already relocated the families from the houses that were washed away. Civil Administration, Police, PWD, Flood Control Department are all ready and keeping an eye on the situation," Sharma told ANI.
