Sindhu earned her spot in the pre-quarters by defeating world No. 21 Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt of Denmark 21-12, 22-20. Following the first-round victory in 44 minutes, Sindhu will face former Olympic champion and rival Carolina Marin of Spain in the second round.
PV Sindhu was the defending Singapore Open champion, but she entered the tournament unseeded following four first-round exits this year. The Indian badminton player began the season ranked seventh in the world, but has since slid out of the top ten.

Playing on court 1, PV Sindhu won the match within two straight games by margin of 21-15, 21-11. She was extremely dominant against her Belgian counterpart and eliminated her from competition in just two games.
