The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a redistribution of portfolios among its Deputy Governors on Friday with immediate effect, following the appointment of Dr Poonam Gupta as Deputy Governor on April 2.
Poonam Gupta, currently the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), has been appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for three years or until orders.
NCAER Director General Dr Poonam Gupta said, "Moderation in inflation (headline inflation to 4.3 per cent) has opened up more policy space. The agriculture sector is also exhibiting much-needed resilience, which bodes well for both inflation control and rural push to the economy."
The Sixteenth Finance Commission has constituted an Advisory Council with five members -- DK Srivastava, Neelkanth Mishra, Poonam Gupta, Pranjul Bhandari, and Rahul Bajoria.
