Jammu and Kashmir Students Association wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, on Saturday, expressing gratitude for the evacuation of 1,300 Kashmiri students from conflict-hit Iran.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and thanked him for facilitating the safe evacuation of Indian nationals.
The Indian government has initiated Operation Sindhu to evacuate Indian nationals from conflict zones in Iran and Israel amid escalating tensions in West Asia. The operation, which began on June 18, has successfully evacuated over 4415 Indian nationals so far.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India, so far have evacuated 3,426 Indian nationals from Iran and 818 Indian nationals from Israel in Operation Sindhu.
While speaking to ANI, an Indian evacuee returning from Iran said, "I thank my government, especially the Prime Minister. We faced no difficulties. Both the Iranian and Indian governments treated us very well."
A special flight under Operation Sindhu brought 272 Indian and 3 Nepalese nationals from Iran to New Delhi on June 26. So far, 3,426 Indians have been evacuated from Iran as part of the ongoing mission, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
