Apart from that the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has cancelled all its events scheduled for today to celebrate the former Chief Minister Kalaingar Karunanithi's centenary, according to a party source.
Several trains have been cancelled while many were diverted following a major accident in Odisha's Balasore where three trains collided claiming the lives of 233 people and injuring around 900.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday arrived at Balsore in the State, the site of last night's mishap involving three trains in which the death toll this morning had gone up to 238 and over 900 injured.
Taking to Twitter, Kirron Kher wrote, "Saddened to hear about the disastrous train accident at Balasore in Odisha. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured."
Efforts are underway to cut the only bogie left which was severely damaged after the horrific train accident in Odisha's Balasore, state Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena said on Saturday.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw arrived at the accident spot in Odisha's Balasore where three trains collided on Friday claiming the lives of 233 people and injuring around 900.
"I am deeply saddened by the horrific train accident that took place in Balasore, Odisha. In view of the horrific train accident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has postponed all its programs across the country today," BJP national president said.
The office of the Nepal Prime Minister tweeted, "I'm saddened by the loss of dozens of lives in a train accident in Odisha, India today. I extend deep condolences to Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji, Government, and the bereaved families in this hour of grief."
Deputy Commissioner of Police in Cuttack, Pinak Mishra said on Saturday that all security precautions to admit the injured were put in place following the Coromandel Express derailment on Friday in Odisha's Balasore.
Recalling the nerveless minutes leading up to the derailment of coaches, the survivor told ANI that the incident had occurred at 6.50 pm on Friday, shortly after when they heard a loud noise from the collision of the express passenger train with a goods carriage.
