Ramkumar S, Secretary and Mission Director (MD) of the National Health Mission (NHM) in Meghalaya, who himself recovered from Tuberculosis, said that they have launched the 100-day TB programme as well as the Comprehensive TB Care Programme in the state.
The BPaLM regimen is a novel treatment for multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) under its National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) as a highly effective and shorter treatment option.
According to an official release from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, "There is no shortage of anti-tuberculosis drugs in the country. There has been a regular supply of anti-TB drugs to all the states and UTs from the central level under the NTEP throughout the year."
India has performed far better on major metrics as compared to other countries over time, however, it registered 21.4 lakh TB cases in 2021, 18 per cent higher than in 2020.
