DRI Mumbai seized 6.7 kg of smuggled gold worth Rs 6.3 crore from a passenger arriving from Bangkok. The gold was concealed in shoes. Both the passenger and the buyer were arrested under the Customs Act. Investigation is ongoing.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lauded the customs officials of Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport for their vigilance and successful seizure of over 2 kg of smuggled gold worth Rs 1.48 crore.
Officials said the the gold was seized in various forms like gold in wax, rhodium plated wires and buckle, washer shaped rings and crude gold jewellery (pendant, payal etc).
In a significant crackdown on smuggling, Mumbai Airport Customs officials intercepted an Indian national arriving from Dubai and seized a cache of contraband, including gold jewellery, rhodium coins, and iPhones, according to an official statement.
Customs officials seized 24K rhodium-plated gold collectively weighing 386 grams at Mumbai Airport on Wednesday. Gold was concealed in a purse, mobile charger and hairdryer, said Officials of Mumbai Airport Customs.
Officials of the Mumbai Airport said they have seized 24 KT gold dust and 24 KT jewellery valued at Rs 0.43 crore from an Indian national travelling from Dubai.
According to the Mumbai Customs official, the gold dust, valued at Rs 1,05,27,331, was concealed in the undergarments of the couple and their three-year-old child.
Mumbai Airport Customs on Saturday seized narcotics worth Rs 12.98 crore weighing about 1.3 kilograms from a foreign national, said the officials on Monday.
