After a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck northern Japan on Monday, officials have issued an alert for a potential megaquake in northern Japan as per a report by NHK Japan.
Japan issued a tsunami warning late Monday (local time) after a series of strong earthquakes struck off the east coast of Aomori Prefecture, prompting authorities to urge residents in coastal areas to move to higher ground and remain there until further notice.
The earthquake, which occurred at 17:03 (local time), registered a shindo level 4 in Morioka and Yahaba in Iwate Prefecture, as well as in Wakuya town in the neighbouring Miyagi Prefecture.
The Philippines' state media also reported that 70 tourists remain stranded after Philippine Airlines suspended all flights to and from the island until September. 23
