Nepal's Minister for Forests and Environment, Madhav Prasad Chaulagain, said India has been a generous and supportive partner as the country prepares for its March 5 general elections.
As voting day approaches, the government has intensified daily high-level security briefings. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal convened a back-to-back meeting to review election preparedness and the overall law-and-order situation.
At the head office of the Election Commission in the capital, Kathmandu, ballot boxes are being piled up, counted and dispatched to various districts to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
The Election Commission has announced that all the preparations for the nomination filing has been complete with election offices established in all 165 constituencies nationwide.
Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah resigned on Sunday to contest Nepal's March 5 election. He joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) as a senior leader and is being projected as its prime ministerial candidate. Shah is preparing to contest from Jhapa-5 against KP Sharma Oli.
