Last week, the Uttar Pradesh government asked the food and beverage shops along Kanwar Yatra routes to display the name and identity of the operator/owner of their establishments.
The Supreme Court extended its interim order on Friday staying directives issued by authorities of certain state governments that eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route should display the names of the owners outside such shops.
The Uttar Pradesh government filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing petitions challenging its directive regarding the display of the names of shop owners on the Kanwar route.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dinesh Sharma said that there is no objection to the Supreme Court's order staying the Kanwar Yatra directives and expressed that people also should have no objection to presenting their identities.
The Uttar Pradesh government's directive to food shops on the Kanwar Yatra route to display details of the owner or operator has drawn criticism from the opposition parties as well as several alliance partners of the ruling party, BJP.
