Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah garlanded the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, at SVP Chowk in Kalaburagi on the occasion of Kalyana Karnataka Utsav on Tuesday.
The state is celebrating September 17 as Kalyana Karnataka Utsava. The Hyderabad-Karnataka region was renamed as as Kalyana-Karnataka by the previous BS Yediyurappa-led Bharatiya Janata Party goverment.
"Today, we celebrate 75 years of Kalyana Karnataka Liberation and a decade of the region being conferred with special status under Article 371(j)," Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in his address.
