In a major setback to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress candidate Charanjit Singh Channi won from the Jalandhar constituency of Punjab by a comfortable margin of 1,75,993, as per the data from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday said that the Aam Aadmi Party's Lok Sabha bypoll victory from the Jalandhar constituency is historic and has shown that people have put faith in the 'Jodi' of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Sharing his joy, the groom-to-be posted on Twitter, "Naanke Jalandhar waleyan ne ajj da din mere layi hor vi special bana ditta My naanka #Jalandhar has made this day even more special and memorable for me."
AAP's Sushil Rinku is leading by more than 52000 votes over nearest rival Congress' Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary, as per the latest data available on ECI's official website at 12:25 pm.
