The strikes came after United States President Donald Trump urged Israel to "immediately stop bombing" Gaza after Hamas signalled to accept his Gaza peace plan.
US President Joe Biden announced the release of three Israeli hostages as part of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel. The deal, initiated in May, also includes provisions for humanitarian aid to Gaza and outlines steps for future negotiations
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Thursday announced that the operational pause in the Gaza Strip will continue amid the mediator's efforts to continue the process of releasing the hostages and subject to the terms of the framework.
"The State of Qatar announces, as part of the ongoing mediation, an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian truce for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip," posted spokesperson Majed Al Ansari on X.
John Kirby, National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications, told CNN that the administration is working on the situation "literally by the hour" and that they "don't know" if two American women are set to be released later in the day.
