Ahmad Vahidi, a former Quds Force commander wanted by Interpol since 2007 for the 1994 AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people, was appointed deputy chief of Iran's armed forces general staff in October 2025. Vahidi has previously served as Iran's Minister of Defense and Interior.
The statement by Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Saturday also accuses the "criminal government" of United States of supporting the attack, which Iran blames on Israel.
"We remain committed to disrupting illicit funding streams financing Iran's production of weapons that support Russia's war against Ukraine and the attacks by Iranian proxy groups throughout the Middle East," the statement added.
