The passenger ferry service between Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, India, and Kankesanthurai (KKS) in Sri Lanka has resumed, the Indian Embassy in Sri Lanka said in a statement on Friday.
The newly launched passenger ferry service from Nagapattinam to Sri Lanka's Kankesanthurai will have a travel time of approximately 3-4 hours, sources said.
In his virtual address at the flag-off ceremony of the ferry service between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai, he said that the launch of a ferry service between India and Sri Lanka is also an affirmation of the people-centric policies of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the launch of ferry services between Nagapattinam and SrilLanka's Kankesanthurai is an important milestone in strengthening the relations between the two countries.
India-Sri Lanka Joint Committee, which was established under MOU on Passenger Transportation by Sea, held a virtual meeting on July 14 and discussed the strengthening of connectivity and resumption of ferry services between the two countries.
