In one of the biggest crackdowns on illegal cannabis cultivation in Tripura, security forces destroyed over five lakh mature ganja plants during a large-scale joint operation in the Dulunga forest area under Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district.
A joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) Yamunapar Zone and Kaundhiyara Police on Monday arrested two individuals and recovered over 13.55 kilograms of illegal cannabis from their possession in Prayagraj, police said.
The operation, carried out by the vigilant BSF troops of the 78th Battalion under the Guwahati Frontier, led to the destruction of around 5 acres of illegal cannabis cultivation, which was cut and subsequently burned.
Border Security Force, in a joint operation with Tripura Police and forest officials, destroyed approximately 65000 matured cannabis plants cultivated in 10 hectares of land spread on Wednesday.
