The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an 'orange alert' for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts today, indicating a very heavy rainfall from 6 cm to 20 cm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts of Kerala for today and a yellow alert in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts.
It announced red alerts for Kannur and Idukki districts and an orange alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala, while a Yellow alert has been sounded for the Thiruvana
The Kerala High Court has asked the state government to clarify if there was a possibility of rice-eating wild tusker 'Arikomban' returning to its original habitat in the Chinnakanal area of Idukki district.
Senior veterinary officer Dr Arun Zachariah leading the team said, "Arikomban was brought to Kumali in the Idukki district around 121 kilometres away from Chinnakkanal. Section 144 was declared in the Kumali area and restricted electricity supply on the way it was transported."
Various farmers' organisations from the Idukki district organised a march to the Kerala High Court on Wednesday seeking justice on the issue of tusker 'Arikomban', the wild elephant, which roams around the Chinnakkanal and nearby areas in Idukki and has destroyed several human settlements.
