As cyclone Fengal crossed north Tamil Nadu coasts and Puducherry, the beaches in Chennai witnessed high tides and rough sea conditions. The weather forecast issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicted "isolated heavy to very heavy" rainfall in Chennai for today.
As Cyclone Fengal approaches the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, many coastal areas have experienced changes in weather, including high tides and rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression, currently moving northwestwards, is expected to cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, near Puducherry, by the morning of November 30.
The National Disaster Response Force on Monday rescued seven people who were stranded in Hinglaj village in the Valsad district of Gujarat due to heavy rainfall and high tide in the Auranga River.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department forecast moderate to intense spells of rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai, Sindhudurg and Ghat areas of Pune today.
"Moderate rain in Mumbai city and suburbs with heavy rain at one or two places. High Tide - 0903 hours - 3.60 Meter Low Tide - 1500 hours - 2.37 Meter High Tide - 2038 hours - 3.10Meter Low Tide - (Next Day - 28.08.2023) 0251 hours - 1.00 Meter," the BMC wrote in a message on X.
Alerted lifeguards at Mumbai's Aksa Beach saved the lives of 10 people after they started drowning because of the high tides while taking bath in the sea on Sunday evening, said police.
The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of high waves on the Kerala coast (from Vizhinjam to Kasaragod) till 11.30 pm on Thursday.
