On Monday, the 14-year-old Paris Olympian clocked 4:24.60 to outdo the previous national record of 4:24.70 set by Hashika Ramachandra during the senior nationals last year, as per Olympics.com. She also outdid Delhi's Bhavya Sachdeva meet record of 4:27.93.
The 77th Senior National Aquatic Championships 2024 began with a splash at the International Aquatic Complex in Mangaluru. 10 events were conducted on the first day, which also saw Hashika Ramachandra create a national record in the Women's 400m Freestyle event.
As per a press release from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the 29-year-old Sajan Prakash won eight medals, with five individual gold, two silver and a bronze, to pip Srihari Nataraj who also claimed eight medals in all, with six gold including two in relays.
Sajan Prakash, competing at the Sardar Patel Aquatics Complex in Ahemdabad, beat tough competition from Madhya Pradesh's Advait Page in the men's 400-meter freestyle and Karnataka's S Siva in the 200-meter individual medley to increase his personal gold medal total at this edition to five.
Favourite Hrutika Shriram stayed on course to repeat the golden hattrick by winning the Women's 10m Platform event. Though she was self-admittedly not at her best, she did her dives well enough to pick up her second gold in three days and her 10th crown in four editions of the National Games
