"Northwest India recorded 12.1 per cent less rainfall, while East and Northeast India saw a massive 86.2 per cent shortfall. Central India also witnessed the decline, with rainfall plunging 79.4 per cent below normal," Jenamani said.
During the second half of the southwest monsoon season, normal to above normal rainfall is very likely over most parts of subdivisions adjacent to or along the Himalayas, east-central India, and some parts of east and northeast India, the IMD said.
"Monsoon is in its advanced stage and is active. We can see clouds over Kokan, Goa, Central India, as well as Northeastern states," according to IMD senior scientist who has predicted heavy rainfall (more than 12 cm) in Madhya Pradesh over the next two days.
