India Meteorological Department (IMD), Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, on Tuesday highlighted the challenges posed by climate change to the weather forecasters, saying that the ongoing phenomenon has led to extreme weather conditions in the world.
Southeast monsoon has started withdrawing from September 25 onwards from some parts of Rajasthan and now conditions are favourable for further withdrawal from the northeast and other areas of the country in the next 2-3 days, IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Wednesday.
The Southwest Monsoon is active over the northeast Indian states, said IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, and noted rainfall is expected for the next two days in Assam and Meghalaya.
"Extremely severe cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' is expected to cross Saurashtra and District Kachchh around noon on June 15. People should stay at safe locations on the day it crosses the Gujarat coast," said IMD Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra while talking to ANI.
