Mumbai has emerged as India's top data centre hub, accounting for 53 per cent of the country's total data centre capacity of about 1,530 megawatts (MW) as of September 2025, according to a report by CBRE. The city's dominance is linked to its proximity to global internet exchange points and
India can emerge as a preferred data centre hub due to host of enabling factors, including improving cross-border connectivity (more and more sub-sea cable landings being laid), lower capital and operating cost (including for utilities and manpower), said JM Financial in a report.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), which was also graced by President Draupadi Murmu and Governor Anandiben Patel, the Chief Minister advised the youths to think of building their careers in this thriving sector.
