As of Tuesday morning, India has reported 6,815 active COVID-19 cases. According to data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), 163 cases of the new COVID-19 variant XFG have recently been detected across the country.
The total number of active cases is 148, with no detection of the JN.1 variant. It's noted that 51% of these cases are asymptomatic, and the symptomatic cases present mild symptoms and recover within a few days, the health department said.

Amid rising cases of the new COVID variant, JN.1, in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar urged the public to not panic while assuring that everything is fine so far.
