The 14th edition of Exercise MAITREE between the Indian and Thai armies began in Umroi, Meghalaya. Conducted from September 1-14, it will focus on counter-terrorist operations in semi-urban terrain, with contingents from the Madras Regiment and Thailand's 1st Infantry Battalion.
During the exercise, an Infantry Battalion each from the Indian Army and the Nepali Army will be training together to develop inter-operability and share their experience of unorthodox modes of warfare including Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorist operations and also on Humanitarian
Lieutenant General (Retd) KJS Dhillon said on Sunday that the three security personnel—two Indian army officers and one Jammu and Kashmir Police officer—who were killed in the Anantnag encounter were highly motivated people who had a lot of experience in counter-terrorist operations.
The two terrorists were killed on Thursday morning in the Kasbah in Nablus (Shechem) during a joint operation conducted by the Shin Bet, the Border Police, the IDF, and Police Special Forces. The two are identified as Hassan Katnani and Ma'ad Masri.
