Shambhu S Kumaran, Chairman of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), Indian Ambassador to Austria, met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York.
The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Interior, has been elected to the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) for the 2026-2029 term, as a representative of the Asia-Pacific Group.
Ambassador Shambhu S Kumaran, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, presides over the session from March 10 to March 14, 2024. This marks India's return to the chair after two decades, reinforcing its influence in global policymaking on narcotics control.
The Indian Embassy in Austria said in a statement on Friday that India has been chosen to Chair the 68th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND).
The Commission on Narcotic Drugs supervises the application of international drug control treaties, while the Programme Coordinating Board of UNAIDS supports and provides strategic direction for an international response to HIV/AIDS.
