North Korea's second attempt to launch a spy satellite, Malligyong-1 into orbit failed on Thursday due to an error in the emergency blasting system in the third stage of the rocket.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said on Friday that the part had been recovered the day before and that efforts were being made to locate more pieces of what the North claimed to be a space launch vehicle.
According to Korea Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korea launched "Malligyong-1," the military reconnaissance satellite mounted on a new-type rocket named "Chollima-1," at its rocket launching station on the west coast at 6:27 am (local time).
