More than 120 people have died as a result of the devastating wildfires that are ravaging large areas of Chile, according to authorities, who have issued a warning that the death toll is likely to rise, reported CNN.
The death toll has risen to 64 in Chile as the wildfires continue to wreak havoc in the South American country. The authorities have said that the toll is likely to rise further.
Chile has declared a state of emergency as the country battles to contain fast-spreading wildfires. At least 19 people died, and the toll may increase.
Partly due to climate change, wildfires have grown in scope, intensity and frequency as rising temperatures and drought heighten fire conditions around the world, resulting in explosive blazes in places like Chile, Algeria, France, Spain and the western United States.
Santiago [Chile], Dec. 27 (ANI): Chilean President Sebastian Pinera on Thursday said there are indications that the forest fire in Valparaiso city, which has destroyed at least 245 houses nearby, may have been set intentionally.
