Based on specific intelligence Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force recovered 327 bags of illegal Areca Nuts worth 1.83 crores on Monday that had been dumped and concealed in the jungle near Chhungte village in Champhai district.
In a major crackdown on smuggling, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, seized counterfeit cigarettes worth Rs 42.5 lakh in Mizoram's Chhungte area, said Assam Rifles.
Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, recovered 77 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs one crore ten thousand in the general area of Chhungte of Mizoram's Champhai district, a release stated on Monday.
The operations were carried out by combined teams of Assam Rifles and Excise and Narcotics Department Champhai based on specific information. During the operation, four individuals were also arrested.
