The Rouse Avenue court has recently convicted three people, including MCD's Junior Engineer, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe for allowing the construction of a house. It was alleged that the complainant was threatened if the demand was not fulfilled.
In a major breakthrough against corruption, the Anti-Corruption Branch, Delhi, arrested a tout red-handed who received a bribe on behalf of officials of Sub-Registrar-I, Kashmiri Gate, Delhi, on Wednesday, the police said.
After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs 30,000 and directed the complainant to pay the demanded bribe amount after disbursal of his salary.
The case stemmed from allegations made by a known offender, who claimed he was stopped and extorted by police officials after purchasing alcohol. According to the complaint, a bribe demand of Rs 1,00,000 was made with threats of being falsely implicated.
