Petitioner Dubey filed the petition on January 4, seeking a detailed investigation into the tiger deaths in the state. He also alleged various irregularities in the probe of tiger deaths and accused the forest officials of negligence.
"There has been continuous movement of elephants in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve since 2018. It was felt that if their identity is established, it would be very helpful in monitoring them and studying their behaviour."

In a significant development, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has intervened in the mysterious deaths of 10 elephants in Madhya Pradesh's Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
"According to the preliminary information, we have not received any evidence regarding the use of pesticides on the crops. The postmortem report will be sent to us in 2-3 days. The Bandhavgarh Field Director has been suspended," said CM Mohan Yadav.
Ahirwar said, "We received the information about the death of elephants on October 29 and later within three days 10 elephants died till October 31. Teams have been constituted and a probe is underway. I have visited the spot where the last rites of the elephants were performed."
