Calcutta High Court on Monday gave conditional bail to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Asansol mayor Jitendra Tiwari on a personal bond of Rs 50,000.
BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari, who was arrested from Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh by Asansol Durgapur Commissionerate, was brought to Kolkata on Saturday late evening.
West Bengal Police on Saturday arrested Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jitendra Tiwari in connection with a stampede, claiming three lives, during a blanket distribution program in December last year.
BJP MP from Bishnupur said that the stampede was conspired by the TMC to frame BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
Calcutta High Court on December 8 directed that West Bengal police shall not register any further FIRs against Adhikari without the court's permission.
